OmniLight FPL II
Experience the many benefits offered by our OmniLight FPL II. Our office has the only OmniLight fluorescent pulsed light machine in Northern Virginia. This machine uses some of the best technology to thermally destroy the complete hair follicle for permanent hair removal. It is also an effective way to rejuvenate skin and to treat rosacea, small vessels (spider veins) and acne. Technically not a true laser, OmniLight is very effective and less painful than most lasers. There is less risk of burning, blistering and scarring, as well. The photos below are marvelous testimony to the effectiveness of OmniLight.

What is the Omnilight FPL?
Most cosmetic lasers use either laser or IPL (Intense Pulsed Light) technology. The light produced by these machines gets converted to energy (or heat) in the skin, which affects structures such as hair follicles or large pores to cause desired effects. The wavelength of the light and the amount of energy given determines which structures are affected.
We have an OmniLight FPL (Fluorescent Pulsed Light) machine. It has the advantages of both lasers and IPLs. By using patented fluorescent filter technology, it converts unwanted light into useful desirable light, which improves effectiveness and minimizes damage to surrounding structures. This makes our treatments more effective for all skin types, while limiting discomfort and almost eliminating the risk of burns.
What Can Be Treated?
- Unwanted Hair
- Facial Redness and Veins (Rosacea/Vascular Lesions)
- Acne
- Aging Skin (Skin Rejuvenation)
Hair Removal
Most people require 4-6 treatments for hair removal, although the number of treatments will vary depending on hair density, skin and hair color, and body location. You may experience a mild sunburn sensation for up to 8 hours after treatment. The hair stubs then generally fall out with in the next 1-2 weeks, after which some regrowth will occur. With each successive treatment less hair should return. The treatments are usually spaced 4-6 weeks apart. Hair removal is considered permanent, but it is possible that occasional touch ups may be needed sometime in the future.
Skin Rejuvenation : Including Freckles, Age Spots, Facial Veins, Redness (Rosacea), Tone and Texture Improvement
For freckles, age and red spots, anywhere from 1-5 treatments are needed, depending on the severity. Skin rejuvenation and texture improvement are usually done monthly, for 5 sessions. Skin tone improvements with reduction in redness, brown spots, and pore size will occur gradually with each successive treatment. In addition, you can expect gradual smoothing for a more uniform skin texture and color. Treating rosacea and vascular lesions may cause temporary redness and puffiness that go away within 24 hours. The skin will often look less red within a few hours of treatment. Pigmented lesions will get darker over a 7 -14 day period and then lighten. Some will peel off.
To maintain your new look, consider a skin care regimen. We are happy to recommend a therapy to help with your particular skin and lifestyle issues. In addition, it is recommend to have a touch up treatment every 6-12 months to maintain skin rejuvenation. But the most important thing is to wear sunscreen, each and every day!
Acne
Acne is generally treated in 4 sessions over 2 to 4 weeks. It will often take 4-6 weeks after the last treatment for clearing, and there is usually a flare or worsening of the acne in the intervening time. This is an excellent treatment for teenagers (and adults) with mild to moderate acne who can’t or won’t do complicated skin regimens. It is also useful to treat acne in difficult to reach areas, such as the back. With concerns of antibiotic resistance, this is a useful treatment that can prevent the need for daily oral antibiotics, especially with more severe acne. It can be added to other treatments to improve overall effectiveness.
As with other skin therapies, your best results will occur with an appropriate daily skin care regimen, and we will work with you to find the best regimen for you. Most people will require a single touch up treatment every 6-12 months for maintenance, using the Zeno for occasional breakthrough acne in the meantime.
Combination therapies
Most Omnilight treatments are even more effective when combined with other treatments. Vibraderm and chemical peels will enhance skin rejuvenation and acne treatments. Using the Clarisonic brush with a good quality cleanser and toner will clean debris off the skin and make topical treatments more effective. Specific therapeutic topical medications such as Vitamin C, Vitamin A (tretinoin, retinol) and growth factors will help maintain your results. Of course, the use of a good sunscreen cannot be over emphasized, and should be used religiously.
What are the treatments like? Will there be down time after the treatment?
Treatments usually take 15-30 minutes, although treating large areas may take longer. The pulses feel like a warm rubber band snapping against the skin. We offer a local anesthetic to desensitize the skin prior to and during the treatment. For safety reasons, we always apply local anesthetic in the office. Most people are in and out of the office in less than an hour.
OmniLight's unique technology prevents the skin from overheating, blistering, and scarring during treatment. Since it is so safe, there rarely is any down time after treatment and most people go back to work immediately after treatment.
Treatments generally run between $150 and $500 per treatment. Cost depends on type of treatment, location, and amount of surface area treated. Packages are available at a discount, along with interest free financing.
