Laser Spider Vein Removal
Many men and women have unsightly spider veins on their faces and legs. They are superficial blood vessels that appear as small red, blue or purple vessels. Spider veins do not cause symptoms and are only a cosmetic concern.
Although the cause of spider veins is not completely known, they seem to run in families. While they are seen in both men and women, they are seen more frequently in women. Hormones, puberty, birth control pills, pregnancy may also contribute to the formation of spider veins.
The best treatment for spider veins is laser. A laser uses a focused beam of light to heat up the small vein and destroy it. Because the beam is focused, it does not damage the nearby skin tissue. The treatment lasts for about 10-20 minutes. The vein is reabsorbed by the body and disappears over a period of four to six weeks. For best results, several laser sessions may be necessary. There is no down time and patients can resume their normal activities immediately. There can be some minor bruising or redness that will resolve within a few days of treatment.
